Miquel Ortega was born in Barcelona in 1974. He studied physics at the University of Barcelona and holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He conducted postdoctoral research on Innovation and Management at ESADE. His main research areas are fisheries, environmental justice and environmental politics. He has written several books on these topics, along with a number of technical and scientific papers in national and international journals.
Since 2002 he is head of projects at ENT Environment and Management (www.ent.cat), and since 2011 he has worked for Fundació ENT, a foundation linked to ENT Environment and Management focused on environmental research. Since 2006 he is the editor of the journal Ecología Política (www.ecologiapolitica.info), and since 2010 he is the Spanish political coordinator of the fisheries Coalition OCEAN2012 (www.ocean2012.eu). As an activist he has been in collaboration with the NGO Observatori del Deute en la Globalització since 2002.
