About Harokopion University of Athens :
Harokopio University, founded in 1990 in Athens, Greece. Both the organisation and development of the university are based on high international standards and scientific research. As a recent public university Harokopio University combines theoretical teaching with laboratory research, making use of academic teaching, applied knowledge and modern technology.
The Department of Geography combines Human, Natural and Applied Geography, offering a truly multidisciplinary degree to young people. The Department also runs a Postgraduate Programme, which leads to three distinct specialties:a) Management of Natural and Human Induced Hazards, b) European Policies, Planning and Spatial Development, and c) Geoinformatics. The department focuses in the study of the long-term changes of the physical and human environment and on the effects of changes in key land uses and landscapes, with field-work data, cartography and remote-sensing analysis.
Their role in Entitle:
As part of Entitle, Harokopion is responsible for the first Summer School of the project in the island of Syros. The faculty mentors involved in the project has expertise in local development and land-use conflicts, as well as the analysis of (socio)natural disasters such as droughts, floods and fires. The Marie Curie early stage researcher recruited for the Entitle project will research the conflict over gold mining in the north of Greece and the social movement that has emerged to stop extraction.
