Munqeth Mehyar received his degree in Regional Planning and Architecture from the University of Louisiana, USA in 1981, upon which he became the planning engineer for South Amman. Being a committed sportsman, a pilot and scuba diver as well, Mr. Mehyar was the project manager for the German Balsam International Sports Company, and then the Middle East Manager of the Athlete Sports Contracting Company.
In 1994, he co-founded the regional environmental organization EcoPeace/Friends of the Earth Middle East. He is Chairman of the organization and Director of the Amman office, leading FoEME activities concerning the Jordan River, Dead Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba. He has organized dozens of regional conferences, workshops and study tours, and has supervised regional research on shared ecosystems and joint clean-ups.
Charitable activities include being on the Board of Directors of both the Jordan Sports Federation for the Handicapped, and the Jordan Royal Ecological Diving Society. He is also Founder and Director of the Jordan Society for Sustainable Development, an environmental NGO based in Amman. Recently, Mr. Mehyar has received a medal from the Al Hussein Distinguished Giving.
