Georgios Velegrakis is an Electrical and Computer Engineer, graduate of the National Technical University of Athens in 2007 (Master of Engineering – M.Eng.). He holds a Postgraduate Specialisation Diploma (M.Sc.) from the National Technical University of Athens in Environmental Policies and Development since 2010. For his thesis he studied the urban development guided by a central financial and political bureaucracy in conflict with the social movements for the city and their demands. The main field of research was the metropolitan area of Athens, Greece.
He is currently a PhD candidate of the Harokopion University of Athens (HUA) in the field of Political Ecology. He studies extractivism in times of capitalist crisis, in connection (and in contrast) with the social movements and local development. His is mainly studying the case of Greek extractivist activities in times of economic crisis and in comparison with other European and international paradigms.
